The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Where Were You 50 Years Ago Today?

For those in their mid-50's and older, where they were 50 years ago this afternoon is likely forever burned into their memories. Ten years ago on the 40th anniversary of the assassination, WAMC staff members recalled where they were on the afternoon of November 22, 1963… when the news came from Dallas that President Kennedy had been shot.

State Provides Funding for Bio-Tech Partnership

Standardized Test Forum Held

The North Country Alliance for Public Education recently hosted a forum on standardized tests on the Plattsburgh State campus to discuss the controversial Common Core requirements and the impact of testing on students, teachers and parents. The forum was held just days ahead of state education Commissioner John King’s visit to Plattsburgh tonight.

Sean Philpott: Media Myths About Mammography

Like most married couples, my husband and I have a morning routine. I tend to get up first, shower, get dressed, get a cup of coffee, and make lunch. Dan is a little slower to get started, and likes to listen to a program like Good Morning America or the Today Show while ironing our shirts.

Normally the television is just background noise to me, but last week I actually stopped and listened in disbelief as ABC News correspondent Amy Robach revealed publicly that she'd been diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy later that week.

Commissioner King Attends Common Core Forum in Plattsburgh

Common Core is a set of nationally developed standards adopted by 45 states and the District of Columbia, designed to align grade level cirricula across the states. It was adopted in New York, in part, to secure Race to the Top federal education funding. On Wednesday evening, state Commissioner of Education John King was in Plattsburgh, accompanied by Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch, for a panel discussion on Common Core.

Westchester Hosts Invest In Education Rally

State legislators, private school administrators and others Tuesday addressed a crowd of some 5,000 elementary through high school students at a rally in Westchester County. The goal was to drum up support for state legislation to provide tax credits for investments in education.
