WAMC's award-winning daily news magazine show brings the listener the latest in local, national and world news. Join Brian Shields each weekday for the very latest.

The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Highlights from the WAMC Listener Comment Line are usually aired on Friday's edition of Midday Magazine.

Railroad Officials Discuss Vandalism and Future of Adirondack Scenic Railroad

The Adirondack Scenic Railroad is a tourist train that provides scenic rides in the Lake Placid and Utica regions. In early October, a locomotive was vandalized. The damage is being investigated as a deliberate attempt to stop the train’s operations. North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley spoke with two of the non-profit railroad’s officials about the incident and how it is impacting future plans for the rail line.

Saratoga County Chooses First New Sheriff In Four Decades

On Tuesday, Republican Mike Zurlo won with  61 percent of the vote. Zurlo, who also ran on the Independence Party line, was challenged by Conservative and Democratic Party candidate Phil Lindsey, who received 35 percent of the vote. Jason Longton Jr., who ran on his own Stop Corruption Party line, received 3 percent.
