The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Embattled Westfield State University President Evan Dobelle has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of an investigation into his lavish spending on travel and entertainment.  The western Massachusetts school’s board of trustees took the action during the course of a marathon meeting that started Wednesday afternoon and ended past midnight Thursday.

Frustration Growing Over Government Shutdown,Northampton Protest Planned

Frustration is growing over the federal government shutdown and approaching deadline for raising the government’s debt ceiling.  Members of a progressive group in Massachusetts that advocates raising taxes on the rich, cutting military spending, and increasing funds for social programs are planning protests. Members of  Budget for All are going to demonstrate today in Boston and on Friday in Northampton.   WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Marty Nathan, one of the leaders of Budget For All Western Massachusetts.

Community Policing Forum: All About R-e-s-p-e-c-t

A community forum brought activists, citizens and police together in Albany Tuesday night.   Community policing involves assigning specific officers to serve specific neighborhoods, engage residents and cultivate a community-based effort to stop crime.

It was a full house at Milne Hall on UAlbany's downtown campus, the event jointly presented by city police and the Albany Community Policing Advisory Committee.
