President Obama recently noted that “This war, like all wars, must end.” In other words the president is outlining revisions in the legal and moral framework that have guided policies since 2001. Presumably this speech is guided by the president’s belief that we have “turned a corner” in the war with al Qaeda and other terrorist entities. Moreover, the president argued that the 2001 congressional Authorization for the Use of Military Force adopted after the 9/11 attack should be revised and eventually repealed to recognize the diminished capability of al Qaeda as a terror organization.

MGM Resorts International has cleared a major hurdle in the competition to build a casino in western Massachusetts. Voters in Springfield, in a citywide referendum Tuesday, endorsed the company’s plan for an $800 million project in the south end of the city’s downtown.

MGM officials declared a landslide victory after unofficial results from the Springfield election department showed the citywide referendum passed by 58 percent “yes” to 42 percent “no.”  Just under twenty-five percent of the city’s registered voters went to the polls.

New funding will allow a restaurant group in New York to expand its healthy, locally sourced foods to a wider audience. A local investment fund based in Ulster County is issuing a loan to the local group in Dutchess County to make it possible.

Laura Pensiero owns Gigi Hudson Valley, a farm-to-table restaurant group which consists of Gigi Trattoria in Rhinebeck, Gigi Market & Café in Red Hook, and a catering business.

She says the market exists to expand the catering aspect of her business, but, until now, the capital did not.

Berkshire Residents Discuss Race Issues In Wake Of Zimmerman Verdict

The event was held as part of the Lift Ev'ry Voice 2013 festival.
