WAMC's award-winning daily news magazine show brings the listener the latest in local, national and world news. Join Brian Shields each weekday for the very latest.

The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Highlights from the WAMC Listener Comment Line are usually aired on Friday's edition of Midday Magazine.

Forum Will Address Heroin Addiction In Warren And Washington Counties

A recent traffic stop that led to two arrests for heroin possession in Washington County, New York, near the Vermont border is bringing attention to an ongoing issue of the transport of illegal drugs over state lines.

A traffic stop by state troopers early Tuesday on Route 149, west of the Village of Fort Ann, led to two arrests on charges of heroin possession with intent to sell.

Chicopee Police Chief Drama Ends

A saga that has spanned two mayoral administrations in Chicopee, Massachusetts ended Thursday with the appointment of a new police chief.  The new chief will have to run a department that a consultant found to be plagued by internal divisions.

Chicopee Mayor Richard Kos announced the appointment of William Jebb as the city’s new police chief.  Jebb was immediately sworn-in.  Minutes later it was announced that Jebb’s rival for the job, acting chief Thomas Charette, had announced his immediate retirement.

Invasive Plant Found Along Lake George

Advocates for Lake George are taking steps to monitor and prevent the spread of an invasive species along the lakeshore that could threaten native butterfly populations. 

Kristen Rohne, Education Coordinatior for the Lake George Association, said while her organization was checking on a native-plant buffer garden at the Rainbow Beach Homeowners Association in the Town of Bolton, a homeowner asked her team to take a closer look at a plant he hadn’t seen before, growing along the shoreline.
