The law was upheld thanks to Chief Justice John Roberts, who sided with the court's more liberal wing, on a very narrow grounds: Instead of saying Congress has the authority to regulate interstate commerce, they said Congress has the authority to levy taxes. And the penalty for people who do not have health care is a tax and therefore constitutional.

Renee Montagne and Linda Wertheimer has the latest on the Supreme Court's ruling on the Affordable Care Act. The court ruled that the law — with its "individual mandate," or requirement that virtually all Americans buy health insurance — is constitutional.

The justices have ruled on the constitutionality of the landmark health care law that has become a signature of Barack Obama's presidency. The law was largely upheld.

The Massachusetts House has approved a measure calling on school districts to implement a new teacher evaluation system and place performance ahead of seniority in deciding future layoffs.  WAMC’s Lucas Willard reports…

The legislation, which has already been approved by the Senate, resulted from a compromise struck between the Massachusetts Teachers Association and an advocacy group called Stand for Children that had proposed a statewide ballot question.

The organization has said it would be willing to drop the ballot initiative if the bill becomes law.

New York's top court has rejected a request by French investors to reinstate their lawsuit over losing $43 million out of $50 million they put into two structured investment vehicles. WAMC’s Dave Lucas reports.

The investors claim Barclays Bank, Standard & Poor's and two management companies were complicit in leaving investors with plummeting securities shortly before the Wall Street collapse.

The just concluded 2012 legislative session brought mixed results for Governor Cuomo, who is in his second year as governor.  While Cuomo and lawmakers could claim credit for a calm and functional end to the session, the Governor had to drop some of his original goals in order for that to happen.  Capitol Correspondent Karen DeWitt takes a look back…

The state of Connecticut's mosquito management team is unveiling plans for combating the pesky, and potentially harmful, insects.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

Representatives from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection are scheduled to discuss mosquito management strategies for the summer season during a news conference, planned for Thursday morning at Bushnell Park in Hartford, across from DEEP's headquarters. The latest techniques, strategies and equipment being used to control mosquitoes will be displayed.

Comedian Louis C.K. sold out his tour while bypassing ticket services like Ticketmaster. He sold tickets on his website for a flat fee of $45. He raised $4.5 million.
