State police say a trooper who stopped for a disabled car in Westchester County discovered the driver was wanted by the Secret Service for an alleged $1 million wire fraud.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

The arrest occurred Sunday evening on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers.

Darrin Foster, of the Bronx, is accused of stealing the money from his former employer, an investment firm in Westport, Conn.

Police also discovered that Foster allegedly had a suspended license for failure to pay child support.

First lady Michelle Obama is sponsoring a future Navy submarine named after her home state.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

The White House said Tuesday that the first lady has accepted an invitation to be the sponsor of the future USS Ilinois, a Virginia-class submarine being built in Groton, Conn., and Newport News, Va. The new attack submarine is expected to join the fleet in late 2015.

As sponsor, Mrs. Obama will be involved in the life of the submarine and establish a special link to the ship's sailors and their families.

A team of long-distance cyclists was traveling across China, and they fed some chicken feed to a small stray dog. That little white canine followed them for 20 days, 1,100 miles and over 12 mountains. One cyclist started a blog about the dog and it's attracted 40,000 followers.

Air Force Master Sgt. David Sims made his family's weekend unforgettable. During an Atlanta Braves game, his wife and four children came onto the field to watch a video message from him in Afghanistan. He then ran onto the field — a surprise return after a six month deployment.

Too much Heat on Memorial Day?  Maybe for the Celtics!

Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals last night on the hardwood in Miami, Lebron James' alley-oop dunk, two of his game-high 32 points, helped the Heat take the conference opener from the Celtics 93-79.  Sound courtesy of ESPN.  The Heat and Celtics were tied at the half, but the Heat picked up its defensive intensity, limiting Boston to just 33 second-half points.  Kevin Garnett netted 23 for the Celtics, who’ll try to even up the series in Game 2 Wednesday. 

Amnesty International has scolded Madrid police for allegedly instituting monthly quotas for detaining minorities. Some Africans and Latinos complain of being stopped for ID checks several times a day, solely based on the color of their skin. They say the practice is on the rise, as Spain's economy falters.

Digital books are the fastest growing area of publishing. Libraries are seeing a surge in demand for e-book titles as well, but there's a downside. Most major publishers won't allow libraries to lend their titles, while others impose restrictions or charge double or triple the print price.

Damien Cave of The New York Times has been covering ramped-up activities in Honduras by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. A recent raid on a remote village resulted in the deaths of four people, including two pregnant women. Cave talks to David Greene about the issue.
