For nearly three decades, NPR's Morning Edition has prepared listeners for the day ahead with two hours of up-to-the-minute news, background analysis, commentary, and coverage of arts and sports. With nearly 14 million listeners, Morning Edition draws public radio's largest audience.

One of the most respected news magazines in the world, Morning Edition airs Monday through Friday on more than 660 NPR stations across the United States, and around the globe on NPR's international services.

Its cast of regulars includes some of the most familiar voices on radio: correspondent Susan Stamberg; commentator Frank Deford; news analysts Cokie Roberts and Juan Williams; and newscasters Jean Cochran and Carl Kasell.

Produced by NPR in Washington, D.C., Morning Edition draws on reporting from correspondents based in 17 countries around the world, and producers and reporters in 17 locations in the U.S. Their reporting is supplemented by NPR member station reporters across the country and a strong corps of independent producers and reporters in the public radio system.

WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

It was opening weekend in the NBA playoffs and on Saturday the Knicks beat Boston 85-78 at Madison Square Garden. Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points. Game two is Tuesday night.

On Sunday, Miami opened their NBA playoff schedule with a 110-87 rout of Milwaukee. Lebron James scored 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting while contributing 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Oklahoma City clobbered Houston 120-91. Kevin Durant scored 24 points and Russell Westbrook fell two rebounds shy of a triple-double.

Golden Retrievers Sent To Help Boston Heal

They're comfort dogs sent by Lutheran Church Charities in Illinois. One of their jobs: just be ready if someone needs a friend to hug.

Jogging Banned From Baskett Slough Wildlife Refuge

Good morning, I'm Steve Inskeep.

Running can be good for you but apparently, is bad for animals. People who like to run through the Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge were stunned by a new sign. According to the Statesman Journal, the signs at a trailhead there say: No Dogs, Horseback Riding and No Jogging. Hiking is apparently fine. Wildlife officials warn that running people can stress out the animals, and might even interfere with their breeding.

FBI: We Had No Contact With Suspect After Bombing

The FBI is disputing a claim by the mother of the suspected Boston bombers, who says the bureau had spoken to the older brother after the bombs exploded at last Monday's marathon.

At the FBI headquarters in Washington, spokesman Michael Kortan says the bureau's 2011 interview with Tamerlan Tsarnaev was the only FBI contact with him.

Feds Ask To Interview Wife Of Suspected Bomber

A lawyer for the wife of suspected Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev says federal authorities have asked to speak with his client.

Authorities went to the suburban Rhode Island home of Tsarnaev's in-laws Sunday evening, where Katherine Russell Tsarnaev has been staying. Her lawyer tells the Associated Press that she did not speak with them, and they are discussing how to proceed.

Plant Explosion Unites Small Texas Community

And let's check in on another major story that dominated our attention last week, a fertilizer plant that caught fire and exploded in Texas. We can now say that 14 people were killed and 200 injured. But those numbers alone do not quite capture the impact of this disaster.
