The Roundtable

Weekdays, 9:00am

WAMC's The Roundtable is an award-winning, nationally recognized eclectic talk program. The show airs from 9am to noon each weekday and features news, interviews, in-depth discussion, listener call-ins, music, and much (much) more! Hosted by Joe Donahue and produced by Sarah LaDuke, The Roundtable tackles serious and lighthearted subjects, looking to explore the many facets of the human condition with civility, respect and responsibility.

The show's hallmark is thoughtful interviews with A-list newsmakers, authors, artists, sports figures, actors, and people with interesting stories to tell. Since hitting the airwaves in May of 2001, The Roundtable has interviewed the likes of Arthur Miller, Kurt Vonnegut, Maya Angelou, Madeleine Albright, Jimmy Carter, John McCain, Bob Dole, Bill O'Reilly, Steve Martin, James Taylor, Bill Cosby, Stephen King, Melissa Etheridge and lots of other really cool people. Plus, Wilco does our theme song. What more can you ask for?

Sam Amidon

Sam Amidon will perform this Saturday afternoon in Courtyard C at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA as part of the Solid Sound Festival.

Enveloped in traditional music while growing up in Vermont, Sam’s most recent album, Bright Sunny South, is a continuation of his particular method of folk music delivery.

At first listen, his music seems to follow the singer-songwriter model. His background is wrapped in the Appalachian folk-music tradition, and his songs feature expressive vocals and fast, finger-plucked melodies. But a singer-songwriter he is not. Sam Amidon composes new tunes for traditional folk ballads and an array of cover songs that he's attentively made his own.

"Saved: How I Quit Worrying About Money and Became the Richest Guy in the World" by Ben Hewitt

Author Ben Hewitt’s new book is: Saved: How I Quit Worrying About Money and Became the Richest Guy in the World. When Hewitt met Erik Gillard, he was amazed.

Here was a real-life rebel living happily in small-town Vermont on less than $10,000 per year. Gillard’s no bum. He has a job, a girlfriend, good friends, and strong ties to the community.

But how he lives his life–and why–launches Hewitt on a quest to understand the true role of money. Hewitt will be speaking at the Curiosity Forum tomorrow night at Battenkill Books in Cambridge, New York.

Sergio Dias and the Legacy of Os Mutantes

Sergio Dias

Influential Brazilian psychedelic rock band, Os Mutantes will perform at the Solid Sound Festival at MASS MoCA this Sunday and at The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, NY on Wednesday, June 26.

Os Mutantes was formed in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1966 by two brothers, Arnaldo Baptista and Sérgio Dias Baptista and lead singer Rita Lee. In the 60s and 70s they were a part of the Tropicália movement which encompassed art forms such as theatre, poetry, and music. The movement was characterized by a combination of the popular and the avant-garde, as well as a fusion of traditional Brazilian culture with foreign influences.

**Web Extra** Sergio Dias talks about playing shows since the Os Mutantes reboot and about writing songs in English or Portuguese.

The band broke up in 1978 but reunited with a new formation in 2006. Sergio Dias is the lone remaining founding member of Os Mutantes and their latest album is entitled Fool Metal Jack
