The Roundtable

Weekdays, 9:00am

WAMC's The Roundtable is an award-winning, nationally recognized eclectic talk program. The show airs from 9am to noon each weekday and features news, interviews, in-depth discussion, listener call-ins, music, and much (much) more! Hosted by Joe Donahue and produced by Sarah LaDuke, The Roundtable tackles serious and lighthearted subjects, looking to explore the many facets of the human condition with civility, respect and responsibility.

The show's hallmark is thoughtful interviews with A-list newsmakers, authors, artists, sports figures, actors, and people with interesting stories to tell. Since hitting the airwaves in May of 2001, The Roundtable has interviewed the likes of Arthur Miller, Kurt Vonnegut, Maya Angelou, Madeleine Albright, Jimmy Carter, John McCain, Bob Dole, Bill O'Reilly, Steve Martin, James Taylor, Bill Cosby, Stephen King, Melissa Etheridge and lots of other really cool people. Plus, Wilco does our theme song. What more can you ask for?

The Irish Edge

Telling the stories of Irish businesses that have successfully integrated their Irishness with the demands of the global marketplace, The Irish Edge, is a new guide intended as an inspiration to entrepreneurs/innovators and owners of export-oriented businesses.

The Irish Edge tells the stories of successful Irish enterprises that have survived and thrived through the recession, building on culture, tradition, place, identity, language and sustainability.

The enterprises in this book compete, not only on the basis of identity, but by adapting themselves to what is now called the modern ‘experience’ economy.

James Kennelly is co-author of the book and is professor of International Business at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.

The show will be performed with live sound effects and music and features 5 actors playing 50 roles. This special benefit presentation at and for The Rosendale Theatre is directed by Ann Citron - Managing Director for the Rosendale Theatre - who joins us to tell us more.

"Living In The Shadow Of The Cross" By Paul Kivel

Over centuries, Christianity has accomplished much which is deserving of praise. Its institutions have fed the hungry, sheltered the homeless, and advocated for the poor. Christian faith has sustained people through crisis and inspired many works for social justice. Although the word "christian" implicates the epitome of goodness, the actual story is much more complex.

That story is explored in Paul Kivel’s new book Living in the Shadow of the Cross- which reveals the ongoing everyday impact of Christian power and privilege on beliefs, behaviors, and public policy.

"Perv: The Sexual Deviant In All Of Us" By Jesse Bering

Simply utter the word "perv" and you will get snickers and perhaps nudges- describe someone as a pervert and you smear their name painting him and or her as a monster who derives enormous sexual satisfaction from harming children.

In Perv: The Sexual Deviant in All of Us, Jesse Bering reclaims the word and delves into the subject - inviting readers to unpack the morality and sexual deviance. He argues that as a society we must stop asking what is normal and natural, and instead ask what is harmful.

Ars Choralis Presents A New Opera "Miracle In Bethlehem"

Ars Choralis will present the new opera, Miracle in Bethlehem, for its annual “Welcome Yule” concert on Dec. 7th and 8th at the Overlook Methodist Church in Woodstock. The opera is composed by Ars Choralis Artistic Director, Barbara Pickhardt with lyrics by Johanna Hall.

The two-act opera features 40 choir members, 13 soloists and an instrumental ensemble that includes piano, cello, violin, horns and flutes and – as one might guess from the title – tells the story of the nativity.

Johanna Hall’s songwriting career began in 1970 and her songs have been recorded by Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, The Doobie Brothers – and many others. She joins us to talk about Miracle in Bethlehem.
