Vox Pop

Monday - Friday, 2pm - 3pm

Vox Pop is WAMC's live call-in talk program. Guests with expertise in areas ranging from Astronomy to George Washington speak with WAMC's hosts and answer questions posed by WAMC listeners. We also have a number of forums and guests who are regulars to Vox Pop such as our Science Forum and Gardening program.

Every Monday is a "Medical Monday."  Every Friday is a "Food Friday."

Joining us on this edition of Medical Monday on Vox Pop to discuss cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery is Dr. Lewis Britton, head of cardiac surgery at Albany Medical Center.

Dr. Britton specializes in a full range of cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeries, including aortic surgery, complex coronary surgery and minimally invasive valve surgery.

A graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, Dr. Britton completed his fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital and is board certified in thoracic surgery. WAMC’s Bob Barrett hosts.

Since apologizing earlier this week for his remarks on rape and pregnancy, Republican Missouri Rep. Todd Akin has been rebuked by democrats and republicans alike, with presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney saying he should, “Exit the senate race,” and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Preibus telling him, “not to come,” to next week’s Republican National Convention.

Vox Pop : Open Forum - Condoms in Schools : 8/21/12

Public school officials in Springfield, Massachusetts will be mailing letters and making telephone calls to the parents and guardians of thousands of middle and school students to let them know about the district’s new condom availability policy.

Starting September 1, condoms will be available to students from school nurses. parents and guardians who do not want their children to have access to condoms can opt-out of the policy, but at least one school committee member has called idea that condoms could be given out in school to 12-year-olds, “unnerving.”
