New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is out with his first set of municipal fiscal stress scores based on his office’s new Fiscal Stress Monitoring System. The numbers were revealed during a teleconference today.

A piece of legislation that would set up a rent control board in a Berkshires mobile home park has been approved by Massachusetts’ state Senate.

In February, at a special town meeting in West Stockbridge, voters approved a home rule petition to establish a rent control board for regulating evictions, rent adjustments, and occupancy standards for mobile home parks.

Two New York Congressmen from the Hudson Valley engaged in a discussion of regional issues, just the two of them, earlier today in Poughkeepsie. It was the first such joint event for them outside Washington, D.C. 

   Activists held a series of demonstrations across the country today to call on influential Democratic members of Congress to prevent cuts to the food stamp program.  One of  the demonstrations was in Springfield, Massachusetts.

There are three days left in the New York State legislative session, and chances are dimming for a settlement on an abortion rights provision in a women’s equality act, and for reform of campaign financing and other anti-corruption measures.  Meanwhile, a new poll finds the public increasingly dissatisfied. WAMC's Capitol Correspondent Karen DeWitt reports.

This week is the scheduled end of the legislative session.  Often the end of session is a time when special interest legislation surfaces – it looks like this year is no exception.

Lawmakers are considering legislation that would give a gift to the tobacco industry.  Under the proposal, tobacco companies – and only tobacco companies, no other types of businesses – would not have to post a bond that is the equivalent of the judgment against them in court.

New funding is being provided to help meet growing demand at community health centers in Massachusetts.  The money comes from a partnership between a large Boston- based hospital network and a non-profit health maintenance organization.
