Northeast Report feature reports from WAMC News bureau chiefs...plus commentary, arts news and interviews, the latest weather forecast and an afternoon business wrap-up. The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 15 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

North Adams Community Discusses Substance Abuse

In North Adams a public forum was held to address the growing problem of prescription drug and heroin addiction in the Berkshires. WAMC’s Berkshire Bureau Chief Lucas Willard attended the meeting and filed a report.

At the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition’s open forum this morning, members of the local community including officials from the City of North Adams, business owners, area residents, social services, and law enforcement, came together to discuss the dangerous issue of prescription drug and heroin addiction.

Women, Big Democratic Turnout Key Warren Win

Elizabeth Warren is going to be the first woman from Massachusetts to serve in the United States Senate.  WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill looks at Warren’s historic victory in Tuesday’s election.

The outcome of Tuesday’s closely watched, highly competitive election for US Senate in Massachusetts was not surprising, but was none the less improbable.  When the campaign began,  Warren was a relatively obscure, first time candidate, according to Tim Vercellotti, the director of the Western New England University Polling Institute.

Poll Shows Voter Opinion of Massachusetts Ballot Questions

Recent polling reveals some new information on how Massachusetts voters feel about some of the ballot questions to be decided on election day. WAMC’s Berkshire Bureau Chief Lucas Willard reports that many are still divided on the issues…

A statewide survey recently conducted by the Polling institute at Western New England Voters reveals two things. One, a majority of voters appear to support legalizing medical marijuana, and Two, voters are at almost an even split over the so-called “Death with Dignity” question.
