The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 24 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

Steve Katz Brings Varied Legacy To Linda

Steve Katz will bring his more than five decades in music to the Linda, WAMC’s performing arts studio, tomorrow night. Steve Katz began his musical journey as a youngster in Schenectady, and headed to Greenwich Village before carving out a career with groups including the Blues Project and Blood, Sweat and Tears. He also worked as a record producer and “A & R” man.  Steve Katz will bring his guitars and his memories to the Linda tomorrow night. But it all began with a TV appearance on the old Teenage Barn program on WRGB in Schenectady.

Rescued California Hens Move East To Sanctuaries

More than 1,000 hens rescued from a factory egg operation in California arrived via plane in New York this morning.  Four hundred of the hens are headed for two sanctuaries in the Hudson Valley region.

1,150 hens touched down in Elmira, New York. The $50,000 flight was funded by an anonymous donor. Kim Sturla is with California-based sanctuary for farmed animals Animal Place. She says the hens flown east were part of the more than 3,000 rescued from what is called a battery hen operation, an egg-laying factory.

Cuomo's "Death Penalty " Remarks on Failing Schools Draws Reaction

Bob Goepfert Reviews "Big Maggie"

For some reason you are supposed to warn people about plays that do not have loveable central characters.   The same is true for plays that make you feel and think.  Too, people feel they should be cautioned about plays that force them to understand life is complicated.  

“Big Maggie” playing at Albany Civic Theater is all of the above.  Nonetheless it is a brilliantly executed piece of theater that proves depreciating the taste level of audiences is humbug.  This is a production that deserves an audience.

Governor Cuomo Visits Rockland Town As Part of NY Rising

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was in the Hudson Valley this afternoon, his second stop of the day in communities that qualify for funding for recovery and rebuilding from Hurricane Sandy, Tropical Storm Lee, and Hurricane Irene under a new state program.

Governor Cuomo visited Stony Point, hit hard by storms before and after the bruising Hurricane Sandy last October. He says it is inarguable that we are living amid a new weather pattern.

Early Childhood Education Organization Returns To Tornado Ravaged Neighborhood

Officials in Springfield, Massachusetts have marked another step forward in the city’s recovery from the tornado that caused extensive damage 26 months ago.

With children singing and bright white, blue, and gold balloons buffeted by a gentle breeze, Square One celebrated the opening of its new center on Main Street in the South End Neighborhood on Wednesday.  It is just two blocks from where the early childhood education organization’s preschool and administrative offices were destroyed when the tornado roared through Springfield on June 1st, 2011.
