Northeast Report feature reports from WAMC News bureau chiefs...plus commentary, arts news and interviews, the latest weather forecast and an afternoon business wrap-up. The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 24 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

The internal treasury investigation that found the Internal Revenue Service improperly selected conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status for further appraisal has outraged Congress and groups across the country. Some organizations across the Northeast are concerned, and others have felt the influence of the IRS targeting. North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has reaction from some of local patriot groups.

Keith Strudler: Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat

I always figured it would take an act of God to get me to root for LeBron James. Really, it took just two words. Chicago Bulls.  Thanks to an awful display of basketball over the past week, I’ve pulled for LeBron’s Miami Heat over the Bulls in the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals. Right now with a 3-1 lead in a best of seven series, it’s most likely the Heat can end this tonight so I can start hating LeBron again.

Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings has formally announced he will not run for a sixth term in office, ending a political career spanning more than three decades.

There was no shortage of applause, glad-handing, and backslapping at Albany City Hall Wednesday morning as Mayor Jerry Jennings, a Democrat, publicly announced what he had previously revealed in an open letter sent to members of the press and city officials Tuesday night announcing his intention not to seek reelection.

Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings’ announcement last night that he will not seek a sixth term in November came at a time when the city’s Democratic machine is already in motion as it gears up for a primary between announced candidates Kathy Sheehan, the city treasurer, and 2009 mayoral candidate Corey Ellis. NRC Grades Indian Point; Plant Opponents Grade The NRC

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is holding a public meeting and open house this evening to discuss the Commission’s recent safety assessment of the Indian Point nuclear power plant in Westchester County. Earlier today, Indian Point opponents issued their own report card, grading the NRC.

A number of leaders of environmental and citizens’ groups stood near the Hudson River in Peekskill Tuesday, with the Indian Point power plant reactors in the background. Former Democratic New York State Assemblyman Richard Brodsky was among them.
