Northeast Report and Northeast Report - Late Edition are two half hour magazines of news and information, aired every weekday from 3:30PM-4:00PM just before All Things Considered... and again from 6:05PM - 6:30PM just before Marketplace. Northeast Report feature reports from WAMC News bureau chiefs...plus commentary, arts news and interviews, the latest weather forecast and an afternoon business wrap-up. The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 24 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

Blair Horner: The Nation Gets Graded On Its Patient Pain Control Polices

Early last month a report graded each of the 50 states’ policies on how well they controlled patients’ pain.  The report showed that much progress had been made over the last decade in implementing balanced policies that increase access to effective pain medications and establish a system to mitigate drug abuse.  However, much more needs to be done.

NY Congressman Rails Against Student Loan Rate Hike

New York Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney appeared at a community college in Orange County today, calling for a three-pronged approach to the student loan crisis.  Interest rates on a type of federal student loan doubled July 1, and Maloney wants to reverse that —   for starters.

Keith Strudler: Lance Armstrong On What It Takes To Win

A few years ago, the athletic shoe company Adidas had this ad slogan that went, “Impossible is nothing.” It always seemed to be worn by people who I doubt adhered to that ethic, but certainly held their favorite athletes to that standard. More to the point, the slogan itself doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. For example, I have stared at a 10 foot basketball hoop since I was about five, all with the hope that I might someday grab it on the way down from a windmill dunk. That never happened. The closest I ever got was when we played on seven foot rims at the elementary school.
