Northeast Report feature reports from WAMC News bureau chiefs...plus commentary, arts news and interviews, the latest weather forecast and an afternoon business wrap-up. The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 24 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

Quebec Elections Oust Parti-Quebecois In Stunning Defeat

On March 5th, Quebec Premier Pauline Marois called a provincial election in hopes of gaining a majority government for her Parti Quebecois.  But her campaign faltered, and the results of Monday’s election delivered a crushing defeat to the P-Q and gave Quebec’s Liberals a majority government. As WAMC’s Pat Bradley reports, the results are closely watched in the North Country.

Glens Falls Derailment May Warrant Closer Look At Rail Infrastructure

A train derailment earlier this week in Glens Falls has some local officials suggesting it may be time to reexamine the area’s infrastructure.

On Monday afternoon, a train carrying ammonia derailed in Glens Falls, jumping tracks near the Lehigh Northeast Cement Company.

Ed Greenberg, a spokesman for Canadian Pacific, the company that owns the tracks, said emergency protocols were initiated swiftly, the two tanker cars were placed back on the tracks, and traffic was resumed by Tuesday morning.
