The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 24 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

$1 Million Donation Supports New Health Education Center

A western Massachusetts community college has announced a major contribution from a former professor to help launch a state of the art health education center.  The new facility will help meet the demand for skilled workers in the region’s growing health care industry.

Holyoke Community College at a meeting of the school’s board of trustees Tuesday morning announced a $1 million contribution to a $5.3 million campaign to equip a new center for health education.  College president William Messner said the center will open in the fall of 2015.

Stephen Gottlieb: Ukraine – The Cold War Again?

There has been a lot of loose talk about how to deal with Russia over Ukraine. Some people think Obama should be, or sound, tougher – or more careful. Toughness is mostly about impressing the home audience, and getting people fired up. But it has nothing to do with what actually has to happen, what the choices or consequences are – it’s all about posturing. Foreign affairs is not a simplistic referendum on “toughness,” and the avatars of toughness should be laughed out of the public space.

Massachusetts Republicans Look For Early Convention To Give Candidates A Boost

Massachusetts Republicans endorsed a full slate of candidates at the party’s convention over the weekend.  This year’s election will feature open seats for Governor, Lt. Governor and two other statewide offices.

The GOP is hoping to make inroads in Massachusetts where it currently holds no statewide offices, no seats in the state’s congressional delegation and is outnumbered in the Massachusetts legislature by about 5 to 1.
