The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 24 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

Keith Strudler: Phil Jackson In NYC

I don’t know if you can home again. But you can go back. At least that’s my take on Phil Jackson, since New York can’t truly be his only home, even with the considerable career he enjoyed as a player with the New York Knicks. But for someone who’s fairly synonymous with Chicago and the Bulls, and someone who won a fist full of titles coaching the Los Angeles Lakers, it’s hard to consider New York his only base. As someone recently told me when I asked where Pele the soccer player lives, Phil Jackson lives everywhere.

One Regents Board Member Replaced, Three Remain

The state legislature replaced one member of the New York State Board of Regents, but allowed three others to remain, in elections held for the state’s top educational policy board.  The vote featured complaints from Republican Senators who voted against all of the candidates to demonstrate their displeasure with the state’s implementation of the new Common Core.

Markey Calls For Expanded Treatment To Address Drug Abuse Crisis

U.S. Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts is calling for a three pronged approach to the current drug abuse crisis that has produced an alarming spike in deaths blamed on heroin overdoses.

Senator Markey wants an expanded effort to prevent overdose deaths, increased availability of treatment for drug addiction, and to speed the rollout of new and improved treatments.

" We have to get at this issue and do it soon, because it has already doubled the number of deaths in Massachusetts in the last ten years and it will double it again. That is why I'm concerned about it."
