Northeast Report feature reports from WAMC News bureau chiefs...plus commentary, arts news and interviews, the latest weather forecast and an afternoon business wrap-up. The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 24 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

FEMA To Pay Springfield $25 Million For 2011 Tornado

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has agreed to pay Springfield, Massachusetts $25 million for the destruction of public property by the 2011 tornado.  It is a final settlement that city officials worked relentlessly to obtain.

Glens Falls Mayor Hears Governor's Call Of Consolidation For Tax Relief

Following New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State address, in which he called for consolidation and efficiency in local governments, the mayor of Glens Falls announced he believes the Warren County city can find savings.

During his State of the State address, Governor Cuomo spoke at length about a mission to freeze and lower property taxes, and touted efficiency and consolidation of local governments as one way communities could save money.

Jobs Program For Homeless Families Hailed

A pilot program in western Massachusetts to place homeless people in permanent jobs so that they can eventually leave shelters has far exceeded its first- year goal. The state’s top housing official announced funding will be available to attempt to replicate the program’s success in other regions of the state.
