Mercury Thermostat Law Signed

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed the Mercury Thermostat Collection Act, requiring that thermostat manufacturers create a program for the collection, transportation, recycling, and disposal of out-of-service thermostats containing mercury.  Environmental advocates across the state are praising the new law, calling it a huge step in getting mercury out of the land, air and water.

More than any other factor, votes in cities and towns in 2013 shaped the casino competition landscape for the burgeoning gaming industry in Massachusetts

In writing the Massachusetts gaming law in 2011 legislators and Governor Deval Patrick insisted that local control be paramount in determining where the state’s first casinos would be built. NYS Jobless Rate Drops

NYS Economy Hits Another All-Time High Private Sector Job Count in November

A sign that New York State's economic fortunes are on an uptick — some encouraging numbers have been released by the labor department.

State officials say New York's unemployment rate dropped from 7.7 percent in October to 7.4 percent in November, the lowest level in nearly five years.  Career-transition expert Dan Moran with NextAct of Colonie says while the number may seem small, it is "significant."  "That's a nice, healthy drop in the unemployment rate, and as well the number of new jobs that hit the market. We are seeing real job growth."
