The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 24 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

Stephen Gottlieb: Metro-North Had Neither Featherbedding Nor Safety

On Sunday, December 1, Metro-North reported an “accident occurred just before 7:30 a.m. … [A] southbound, Hudson Line train with about 120 passengers on board derailed just north of the Spuyten Duyvil station in the Bronx. All cars derailed.” [1] We now know four people died and many were injured.

Massachusetts Gaming Commission Staff Issues Favorable Report On Wynn Resorts

The investigative unit of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has found Wynn Resorts suitable to bid for the lone casino license available in eastern Massachusetts.  The five-member commission conducted a hearing in Boston today on the results of the background investigation

The Investigations and Enforcement Bureau of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission found nothing that would disqualify Wynn Resorts from being issued a casino license in Massachusetts providing the company can explain to the commission’s satisfaction its business practices in Macau, China.

Casino Forum To Answer Questions In Saratoga Springs

Residents of Saratoga Springs will have the chance tonight to hear from a range of experts on how controversial casino development could affect the area.

Tonight at Saratoga Springs City Center, the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce and Saratoga Springs Convention and Tourism Bureau will host a forum to examine the full-scale impact of the arrival of a resort-style casino in the Spa City following the passage of a statewide ballot proposal in November.

U.S. Sen. Schumer Reveals Bill To Help Short-Line Rail In Saratoga Springs

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer joined Saratoga County officials today to launch his push for a bill to extend a tax credit he considers vital to railroads in New York.

On January 1st, a tax credit for short-line railroads is set to expire. At the Saratoga Springs Train Station, Sen. Schumer announced his push for the Short Line Railroad Rehabilitation and Investment Act of 2013. The Democrat mentioned the importance of the Saratoga and North Creek Railway, and other short-line rail lines that connect interstate rail to small communities.

Snowy Owls Spotted Across Region

Snowy owls have been seen in greater numbers around Vermont recently in a rare visit from their normal Arctic habitat.
