The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 24 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

UMass To Spend $2M To Improve Security In Amherst Residence Halls

Officials at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have released an independent report on residence hall security.  The review was commissioned following an alleged gang rape in a residence hall last year.

UMass will spend an estimated $2 million over the next three years to improve security in the residence halls on the flagship campus as recommended by the 214-page report.  UMass Amherst Police Chief John Horvath said there will be new guest registration procedures, changes to the physical layout of residence halls, fixes to problems with doors, alarms and access cards.

Congratulations New York sports fans. You now know what the rest of the world feels like.  Both your basketball teams are awful and retreating towards the NBA lottery. The Jets and the Giants have less offensive production than the Swiss military. And even New York baseball teams, where the Yankees and sometimes the Mets can buy themselves a playoff spot, watched the postseason on their home televisions. In fact, there’s not a single pro team in the New York area with a winning record, even if you include hockey.

NY Congressman Introduces A Bill To Help Finance Automated Train System

A New York congressman is introducing legislation to help railroads invest in technology that the NTSB says could have prevented Sunday’s fatal Metro-North derailment in the Bronx.
