The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 24 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

State Health Exchanges Progress Report

Amid federal rollout troubles surrounding the online marketplace healthcare.gov., state health exchange directors gathered on a conference call today to counter the negative publicity.

President Obama promised to fix the broken promises and broken website stemming from his Affordable Care Act.  Observers say the flawed rollout of the federal website in six weeks accomplished what Republicans failed to do in three years: undermine support not only for Obamacare but for Obama the president.

Skidmore College Announces Partnership With NYSERDA To Train Executives In Clean Energy

The New York Executive Clean Energy Leadership Insitute- or NY EXCEL - is a new program launched by Skidmore College focused on training business professionals in the Empire State about renewable energy and the opportunities surrounding clean energy investment.

The college will partner with the Syracuse Center of Excellence, Brookhaven National Laboratory, the New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium, and the Pace Energy and Climate Center.

DiNapoli Tours Mohawk Valley Flood Damage

It was in late June and early July that floodwaters caused severe damage in parts of the Mohawk Valley, and the recovery continues as the cold weather moves in. State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli toured the area today at the invitation of state Senator Cecelia Tkaczyk, including Fort Plain in Montgomery County, one of the towns that sustained some of the worst damage.

Gillibrand Touts Importance Of STEM Education On Visit To Community College

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today toured Fulton Montgomery Community College to visit a program focused on nanotechnology. The New York Democrat is advocating for STEM education among women and minorities.

Senator Gillibrand visited FMCC’s Center for Engineering and Technology, Electrical Technology – Nanotechnology program. She spoke with students about the importance of STEM education at a school that is geographically positioned between two nanotechnology hubs – SUNY IT’s Nano Utica and Albany’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering.

105th Airlift Wing Opens C-17 Training Facility

The Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh is now one of 12 locations in the U.S. with a C-17 Simulator Training Facility. 

That’s Lieutenant Colonel Steve Grant speaking from the cockpit of the C-17 Training System. It’s the latest addition to Stewart Air National Guard Base, home of the 105th Airlift Wing of the New York Air National Guard. He says training in such a simulator is important preparation for the strategic airlift mission of the C-17.
