105th Airlift Wing Opens C-17 Training Facility

The Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh is now one of 12 locations in the U.S. with a C-17 Simulator Training Facility. 

That’s Lieutenant Colonel Steve Grant speaking from the cockpit of the C-17 Training System. It’s the latest addition to Stewart Air National Guard Base, home of the 105th Airlift Wing of the New York Air National Guard. He says training in such a simulator is important preparation for the strategic airlift mission of the C-17.

Schumer & Schneiderman Tackle Smartphone Crime

Major cities across the Northeast are experiencing a spike in robberies, driven by crimes involving smartphones. New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer are taking steps to discourage thieves from targeting the devices.

Every minute, 113 smartphones are stolen or lost nationwide, according to New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who co-founded a partnership with the wireless industry called Secure Our Smartphones. The initiative has picked up support from 30 other state attorneys general.

Officials Praise Regional Housing Plan

At a meeting today in Chicopee ,top federal and state housing officials praised a newly released plan for expanding access to housing in a large area of western Massachusetts.

The report by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission is the first effort to create a regional housing plan that covers 43 diverse western Massachusetts communities including impoverished urban centers, well-off suburbs, and rural sparsely populated towns.

Keith Strudler: The Brave March To Suburbia

I went to the Summer Olympics in 1996 in Atlanta, as well as the track and field Olympic trials in the same venue. I watched Michael Johnson run, which at that point I assumed was the fastest man there ever could be, and I spent the better part of a week surviving the summer heat of Hotlanta. And I remember thinking, as a track and field fan, that wow, that’s one nice track stadium in the middle of a big city.
