The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 24 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

Keith Strudler: Government Shutdown Halts Sports Too

For the past several years, the military academies, Army, Navy, Air Force, have been at something of a disadvantage in sports, at least in the context of major Division I football. There’s a whole lot of reasons for that. They’ve got that unseemly burden of training both for football and for war. There’s not a lot of gut majors to work with. And as a recruiting pitch, coaches can promise high school stars guaranteed employment upon graduation, most likely in Iraq. That’s not a great sales pitch for any kid dreaming about a different kind of uniform, namely one with an NFL logo on it.

Arrests Begin In Holloway House Party Case

Newspapers attest to the fact that authorities have begun rounding up suspects in the Holloway house trashing.

The “grace period” former NFL player Brian Holloway extended to the youths who ransacked his Stephentown home to make apologies and amends is over – the arrests have begun – the young man who masterminded the house party is among those taken into custody .

Holloway, who played for the Patriots and Raiders in the 1980s, told the Associated Press he'll press charges against anyone who broke any law - quote "The parents had a chance and students had a chance to come forward, and only four did."
