Paul Elisha: The 2nd Amendment And Reality

 In frequent past circumstances, this currently dispirited paladin was moved to remind certain ‘Second Amendment’ advocates (who’ve had what more of us should believe are misdirected objectives), about its starkly restrictive preamble.  Few of them seem, either to have read and /or correctly interpreted it.  In his first inaugural address, after being elected the third American President, in 1801, Thomas Jefferson said that the sum of a good government is to restrain its citizens….”from injuring one another.” He said this was necessary, “…..to close the circle of our felicities.”

Stephen Gottlieb: We Will Not Comply

Did you hear the demonstrators against New York's new gun law chanting in unison "We will not comply!"

That's the problem. Guns allow some of their owners to think that they can define right and wrong and everybody else has to comply. In the hands of some of their owners, guns puff up their sense of self-importance, their sense that laws are written for everybody else but that they are above the law.

Paul Elisha: The 2nd Amendment, Still Fertile for Second Guessers

It’s time we stopped dancing around the obvious institutional source of the U.S. Constitution’s 2nd Amendment assertion of everyone’s right to own and utilize any kind of firearm and for any purpose.  The amendment’s explicit language has been twisted and stretched beyond any semblance of reason and sanity for the perverse purposes of profiteers, predators and promiscuous egocentrics.  For the safety and security of Americans of this and all future generations, it’s time to apply truth and principled logic to the cogent language of actionable law.
