Nadal, Federer Advance At Australian Open

 Rafael Nadal avoided the top player exodus that claimed two-time defending women's champion Victoria Azarenka in the preceding match on center court for a 3-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7), 6-2 win over Grigor Dimitrov in the Australian Open quarterfinals today.

Nadal, who received treatment several times for a nasty-looking blister on the palm of his left hand, advances to the semifinals. Roger Federer regained his dominance over Andy Murray in Grand Slam matches and advanced to his 11th consecutive Australian Open semifinal with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-3 win.

Miami Beats Boston 93-86; MLB Players Angry At A-Rod

In the NBA, Miami blew an 18-point lead before scoring the last nine points in a 93-86 win over Boston.

The Brooklyn Nets got big contributions from their reserves in a 101-90 victory against Orlando. Andray Blatche scored a team-high 18 points. It was the Nets' eighth victory in nine games.

It was Oklahoma City over Portland 105-97 with Kevin Durant scoring 11 of his 46 points in the final 3:23.

Sacramento beat New Orleans 114-97. Rudy Gay tied a career high with 41 points.

And Utah fell to Minnesota 112-97.

Boston Takes Fourth Straight Win

In baseball, pinch hitter Mike Carp's bloop single to left in the eighth inning lifted the Red Sox over Baltimore 4-3 last night. Shane Victorino drove in a run for Boston with an RBI single.

Elsewhere in the American League, Toronto passed the Yankees 7-2. Texas beat Seattle 12-4. Oakland cruised ahead of Detroit 14-4. Tampa Bay outscored the Angels 4-1. The White Sox trumped Houston 6-1 and Kansas City defeated Minnesota 8-1.

Bruins And Stars Engage In 7-Player Trade

Sports fans in Boston have some good reasons to be excited.

In hockey, the Bruins and Dallas Stars completed a 7-player blockbuster trade. Its Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley and Ryan Button to the Stars for forward Loui Eriksson and prospects Reilly Smith, Matt Fraser and Joe Morrow.

In the NBA, the Celtics will introduce former Butler coach Brad Stevens as the team's new coach today at a news conference. The New York Knicks are also keeping J.R. Smith after agreeing to a new deal.
