A  landmark Albany school is moving to smaller quarters.

Saying it's time to stop the financial hemorrhaging, Albany Roman Catholic Diocese Bishop Ed Scharfenberger has decided the troubled Bishop Maginn High School will leave its current home, move to the former Cathedral School on Park Avenue, to "build a new beginning" with perhaps new administrators and board members.

Vincentian Institute and Cardinal McCloskey High School merged in 1977, creating “Maginn” in the former McCloskey building.

Saratoga County Sheriff's Office

Law enforcement officials in Saratoga County have announced the arrest of a Capital Region priest on charges that he had inappropriate contact with a 15-year old girl.

On Tuesday, April 22, James Michael Taylor, a Roman Catholic Priest of the Albany Diocese, was arrested at the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office on the charge of endangering the welfare of a minor, a misdemeanor.

Today marks the official change of leadership for the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese.

On Thursday, St. Pius School in Loudonville was the backdrop for a thank-you ceremony at a student assembly for all the work and support that came from the Capital Region for recovery efforts after Typhoon Haiyan. 

The deadly November 2013 storm, also known as Typhoon Yolanda, devastated some coastal areas of the Philippines.  Catholic Relief Services CEO Dr. Carolyn Woo discussed her recent trip to the Island Nation where she surveyed the damage and where Catholic Relief Services has been helping typhoon victims for over a year.

Reverend Monsignor Edward Scharfenberger was announced as the 10th Bishop of the Diocese of Albany Tuesday morning.

Some 36 years ago, in March 1977,  Reverend Howard Hubbard received word from the Vatican that he was chosen to serve as Bishop of Albany. The years have passed quickly.

New Bishop Appointed For Albany Catholic Diocese

Pope Francis has appointed a new bishop for the Albany Catholic diocese. The Times Union reports that Reverend Monsignor Edward B. Scharfenberger, a priest from Brooklyn, will succeed Bishop Howard Hubbard, who has led the Diocese of Albany for 37 years. There will be a press conference at 11:00 a.m. this morning.
