The son of the County Legislature’s majority leader, Commisso joins a field already featuring Common Council President Carolyn McLaughlin and Green Party hopeful Dan Plaat. In recent days, two separate bomb threats, both unfounded, have been called into the Albany Jewish Community Center. Activists and religious leaders, government officials, concerned citizens and neighbors gathered early Thursday evening on the grounds of the Whitehall Road facility in a show of solidarity.

Albany leaders say the city is working hard to provide affordable housing to both owners and renters. Efforts to continue along that path are being supported by various agencies, including the Albany County Land Bank.

In advance of expected changes in federal immigration enforcement practices and priorities under President Donald Trump, advocates fear millions of people could be affected. Steps are being taken at state and local levels to stay fears of roundups and mass deportations.

Since Albany’s Palace Theatre opened in 1931, it has provided a wide array of cultural events and served as a hub for the creative community. The building fell on hard times but interested parties kept it from the wrecking ball, restoring it and cementing its place as a city landmark. A deal in the works critical to the Palace's future is close to being finalized.
