Dutchess County Executive Will Not Run For Governor

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said Thursday that he will not run for New York governor. WAMC’s Allison Dunne has more on the latest Republican to back away from the race.

There’s now one official candidate running for governor of New York in 2018, and that’s the Assembly’s Republican leader Brian Kolb. He announced in a video released Tuesday.

The New York State Assembly minority leader appeared in front of a New York City council committee this week, urging officials to halt a proposal that would ban plastic foam containers in the city. He says such a ban would cost his district jobs. Environmentalists say turning away from such a ban would cost the land and sea.

Kolb Wants Legislature Back For Special Session

The Republican Leader of the New York state Assembly is calling for the legislature to return for a special session to wrap up some unfinished business.

The legislature adjourned at the end of June with no firm plans to meet again before next January.

Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb says there’s too much left to do to wait until next year.

“I definitely think we should go back,” Kolb said.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Tuesday proposed legislation that establishes a new class of public corruption crimes and enables prosecutors to better crack down on public corruption. The proposal comes on the heels of two federal political corruption cases last week involving elected officials in New York.
