With one good-government leader calling this session Albany’s “Watergate moment,” a lawmaker from the Hudson Valley has introduced an ethics reform package trying to create distance between those who seek to influence the law and those who make the laws. Her effort comes a few months after the former Senate and Assembly leaders were convicted of corruption.

NY Has New Signage For Accessibility

Governor Andrew Cuomo Friday signed legislation updating New York's accessibility signage and logos. The bill was sponsored by two Hudson Valley lawmakers.

Governor Cuomo signed the bill on the eve of the 24th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The legislation amends existing law to require the removal of the word “handicapped” from state signage. Independent Democrat David Carlucci sponsored the bill in the Senate.

“The term “handicapped” is outdated, derogatory, and just plain out offensive.”

Senator Schumer Backs Sing Sing Museum Plan

New York’s senior U.S. senator has put his weight behind an effort to build a museum at a world-famous prison in Westchester County. He says the museum would have the potential to occupy a “must see” list for the New York City metropolitan area.

Democratic Senator Charles Schumer says the museum at the Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, which sits along the Hudson River, would be among the first at an active prison and a major driver of tourism for the Hudson Valley.

Two NYS Legislators Look To Regulate E-Cigarettes

Two New York state legislators from the Hudson Valley say they will push legislation at the beginning of the year that would regulate e-cigarettes the same way as regular, tobacco cigarettes. Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration is expected to issue proposed regulations on the vapor cigarettes soon.
