Senator Warren Praises Holyoke Girls Inc. Program

Massachusetts U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren was in western Massachusetts today where she offered words of encouragement to teenage girls taking part in a summer science and technology education program and attended a swearing in ceremony for a new federal judge.

   Briefly addressing about 50 teenage girls who are participating in a collaborative program of Holyoke Girls Inc. and UMass Amherst, the state’s senior U.S. Senator pointed to herself as an example of what the girls can achieve with the right amount of support and encouragement.

Career Fair Exposes Students to STEM Fields

Students had the chance to try and grab a piece of candy out of a model human abdomen using medical devices at an exhibit offered by the McCann Technical School.

Science, technology, engineering and math are the focus of a career fair in Pittsfield today.

Roughly 400 high school students had the chance to speak to representatives from more than 30 companies, colleges and governmental agencies highlighting careers in the STEM fields. Judith Monachina works in career services at Berkshire Community College, which hosted the fair.

Sciences the Focus for Upcoming 3rd Thursday

The Berkshire STEM Pipeline Network helped plan the upcoming 3rd Thursday events that will showcase local efforts in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Pittsfield’s upcoming 3rd Thursday will showcase the best of Berkshire County’s science and technology initiatives.

“There’s going to be robots, rockets, rocket launchers, an air cannon, and one of my personal favorites, the Mentos and soda-pop experiment," said the city’s Cultural Development Director Megan Whilden.
