Cuomo Critic Primary Threat Against Lt. Governor Choice

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo continues to face a challenge from the left leaning members of his own party, that will play out at the end of the week in the Working Families Party convention.  In addition, a progressive Democrat and wealthy businessman who’s been a harsh critic of Cuomo is threatening to try to get on the ballot for Lieutenant Governor.

Samuels, Left Unhappy With Cuomo

Progressive Democrats who are not happy with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s first term are considering running a candidate for governor on the Working Families Party line. Polls show Cuomo would still win re-election, but his margin of victory would be reduced. Among those not happy with the governor is Bill Samuels, a political activist and business owner from New York City and the founder of the group Effective NY, which has referred to the governor as “Cuomoccio.”

Samuels: Medicaid Reform Needed From Albany

For years, county officials across New York have been calling on state leaders in Albany to give them relief from the mandates that are handed down from the state capitol and Medicaid reform is often at the top of the list of those mandates. The latest call for Medicaid relief comes from Bill Samuels, a New York City businessman, political activist and founder of the group Effective NY, which has been critical of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s policies.

Bill Samuels - A Full-time NYS Legislature

There have been a number of ideas and suggestions on how to improve the New York State Legislature, especially after the recent arrest of two lawmakers on corruption charges. One of the ideas is changing the job from part-time to full time. That’s not a new thought, in fact it was suggested more than 100 years ago, in 1910, by then newly-elected State Senator Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
