breweries

The second annual “Brew U” is on tap for Saturday, October 7th at The Egg in the Student Commons at the Culinary Institute of America’s Hyde Park, NY campus. Brew U is an exciting beer festival that will combine sampling from top breweries - including the Brewery at the CIA - with delicious food from the CIA and fun, educational seminars for beer and culinary enthusiasts.

You have the chance to tour the CIA Brewery, learn about the college’s Art & Science of Brewing course, and meet CIA Head Brewer Hutch Kugeman and other New York State brewers and beer experts, all while sampling beers and ciders. You’ll also enjoy delicious dishes perfectly paired with beer and prepared by CIA chefs.

Hutch joins us along with CIA Professor of Hospitality and Service Management – John Fischer.

This Saturday, August 20th, Big Slide Brewery and Public House on Cascade Road in Lake Placid, New York will hold its grand opening party from noon to 8 p.m.

The event will include live music, locally sourced food, a mechanical bull, games and activities for kids and families, and, of course, great beer -- including a new Russian Imperial Stout, named "To Russia, with love" which has been aging in a decommissioned Atlas Missile silo for the last eight months.

The new establishment is a sister-brewery to the The Lake Placid Pub & Brewery which has been brewing excellent beer in the Adirondacks since 1996.

Our guest is Stu Ruttan, the General Manager of Big Slide Brewery and Public House.

The New York State Brewers Association, Taste NY, and Empire State Development present the first in a series of seasonal beer festivals for 2016 to take place on Saturday, March 5th at the Desmond Hotel in Albany, New York.

The Craft New York Brewers Festival will bring together 54 New York breweries from across the state featuring up to 100+ hard to find and award winning beers.

We are joined by Paul Leone, Executive Director New York State Brewers Association, Jeremy Cowan of Shmaltz Brewing Company, and Ryan Demler of CH Evans/Albany Pump Station.

The number of craft breweries has exploded in recent years. In today’s Congressional Corner, Massachusetts Democratic Representative Richard Neal tells WAMC’s Alan Chartock that he is working on a tax change for such breweries.
