New York Governor Andrew Cuomo released his state budget Tuesday. The $142 billion spending plan includes more money for schools , including a phase in of funding for universal pre-kindergarten programs. It would also freeze property taxes for two years, if local governments cooperate.
New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli says he’ll need to see more details and end of the calendar year state revenue figures before deciding whether the state can afford $2 billion in new tax cuts that Governor Cuomo is likely to propose.
The proposed budget for the coming fiscal year in Springfield Massachusetts is balanced with the help of $5 million from casino developer MGM. The money was included in the budget presented by the city’s mayor even though a Springfield casino is not guaranteed. Casino opponents are crying foul.
