Albany Veterans' Day Parade

More than 900,000 veterans  call New York home. Vets have marched in Albany's traditional Veterans' Day Parade for more than fifty years. The parade stepped off at 11:11am from Central Ave & Manning Blvd,  headed down Central to Lark St and then along Washington Avenue to N Hawk Street  to the reviewing stand on the steps of the State Education building.

There’s a new leader for New York's capital city. Kathy Sheehan ushers in a new era as Albany's first woman executive.

Shortly after 10 p.m., 20-year incumbent and outgoing Mayor Jerry Jennings took the podium at the Polish Community Center to thank fellow Democrats. Not considered a close ally of the new mayor-elect, Jennings sent out a call for unity.

"We Did It" : Kathy Sheehan Elected Mayor of Albany

A resounding victory for City Treasurer Kathy Sheehan who takes the baton from the man who ran Albany for the last two decades, Jerry Jennings. Jennings made a brief appearance at the Polish Community Cneter, where Democrats had gathered to wait for election returns. He joked about the fact we was dressed casually, "no suit and tie."

Election Day has arrived ... the polls are open ...  most of the races today entail state and city offices and issues... Americans are being urged to get out and make every vote count.  The Mayoral race in Albany will be closely-watched . City Treasurer Democrat Kathy Sheehan is expected to take the election. Those who follow politics will be looking to see which -if any- of Sheehan's 5 challengers are able to capture a significant number of votes.

Albany County Unveils Cogeneration Initiative

Albany County's new Waste Heat/Co-generation facility in Menands will not only save money by creating renewable energy, it will also cut CO2 emissions by nearly 1,500 tons per year and will reuse 50,000 gallons of water per day to cool the high-efficiency system.  Albany County Executive Dan McCoy says the co-gen project has long been in the works.

The facility is designed to provide long-term environmental and economic benefits to the Albany County Sewer District's eight member communities, which serve a population of 200,000.

#OccupyAlbany Turns 2

This week marks two years since Occupy Albany pitched tents in Academy Park, leading to a political standoff that lasted weeks and ended in a showdown with city police.
