Ameristar Exit From Casino Race Leaves People In Springfield Disappointed

Amerstar planned to build a casino on this former industrial site in East Springfield. Now the fate of the property is unknown

The announcement by casino operator Ameristar that it is dropping out of the competition for a gambling license in Massachusetts has been greeted by disappointment in Springfield.  WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill reports.

The announcement late Friday by Ameristar came just five weeks after the company’s CEO Gordy Kanofsky, speaking to 200 invited guests inside a large white tent on a former industrial site, boasted about the plans to build a nearly $1 billion dollar resort casino on the property.

Developers Look To Revive Holyoke Casino Project

The mayor of  Holyoke Massachusetts earlier this week, shockingly, opened the door to a casino development in his city.  Now a plan to build a resort casino on a golf course is being revived.  But is Holyoke too late in the casino game in western Massachusetts?     WAMC”s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill reports.

Casino Company Announces $910 Million Project In Springfield

Nevada based gaming company Ameristar has unveiled renderings and announced details about the resort casino it hopes to build in Springfield Massachusetts.  It is one of three companies competing for casino development rights in Springfield.   WAMC”s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill reports.

Gov. Patrick Frustrated by Federal Rejection of Casino Compact

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick calls "very frustrating" the federal government's rejection of a casino compact the state had reached with the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe.

Patrick told reporters on Monday that he planned to reopen negotiations with the tribe but offered no timetable on when a revised compact might be completed.
