Schumer Wants Airlines To Lower Fees

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer is urging airlines to lower the fees for charge for changing flights, which they recently raised. Four major airlines — Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, U.S. Airways and United Airlines — recently increased fees on ticket changes from $150 to $200. Schumer says the additional charge makes it difficult for families on fixed budgets. He says plans can change due to sick children or work demands.

WASHINGTON – If nothing is done by the beginning of July, the college federal student loan rate will double and US Senator Charles Schumer has joined the battle to keep it at its current level.

The Senator said on Wednesday he is in support of the effort to retain the current rate.

“To let the loan rate to go from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent would cost the average student about $3,798 more over their retainment term,”  said Schumer.  “That’s not chump change; that’s mortgage payments, car payments, and let’s not forget that students have lots of other debt.”

NY Politicians, Parents Denounce al-Megrahi

U.S. Senate

Senator Charles Schumer says it's a "grave injustice" that the Libyan man convicted of the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 was allowed to die in freedom rather than behind bars.

The plane crash in Lockerbie, Scotland, took a heavy toll on New York, with 35 Syracuse University students among the 270 victims. Susan Cohen, the mother of one of those students, says the death of Abdel Baset al-Megrahi is no reason to stop investigating who was behind the blast. Al-Megrahi's death was announced Sunday.
