The Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual State of the County, Town and City forum this morning to hear reports from municipal leaders.

Despite inclement weather, nearly a hundred officials and business leaders from across the North Country gathered in Plattsburgh this morning to hear addresses on the state of the town and city of Plattsburgh and Clinton County.

The District Attorney that led prosecutions in the wake of the escape of David Sweat and Richard Matt from the Clinton Correctional facility last summer plans to run for re-election.

Clinton, Franklin, and Essex Counties are the latest in New York to join Operation Lifesaver – an effort by law enforcement agencies to use technology to speed search and rescue operations.  This afternoon, sheriffs’ departments from the three counties demonstrated the technology that they hope will save lives. 

Anti-fracking signs

The Clinton County Legislature has approved a law banning the sale, transport, storage and disposal of fracking and other waste. The League of Women Voters had pushed for its passage.

A legal battle has erupted as a trust for a Native American tribe files suit over a northern New York county’s plan to sell foreclosed lands at auction.

The Turtle Island Trust filed a lawsuit in NYS Supreme Court on Wednesday over an on-line auction sale of foreclosed properties scheduled to occur on Friday.  The trust was formed as part of an agreement between the state and the Ganienkeh Mohawks.  Turtle Island Trust Chair Reverend Don Washburn says they are challenging the legality of Clinton County’s foreclosure actions against 11 parcels.
