The Octavo Singers

The Octavo Singers of Schenectady is an 80-year-old community chorus of about 100 singers. They generally perform large sacred works and present their concerts almost exclusively in big urban churches and synagogues.

This Sunday, December 16th at 3pm, The Octavo Singers will present Handel’s Messiah at the Union College Memorial Chapel. The Octavo Singers’ Artistic Director and Conductor, Curtis Funk, joins us.

Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity

Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity has been serving families in Berkshire County for 20 years. In addition to their new-home construction and rehab housing, they also are a launch affiliate for Habitat’s International Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative.

The band BeauSoleil is playing a benefit show for Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity on September 18th.

We are joined by Executive Director, Carolyn Valli.

JAZZSTOCK - Jack DeJohnette tribute concert at Bearsville

This Sunday, August 12, JAZZSTOCK will present a 70th Birthday Tribute to legendary drummer, composer, bandleader, and 2012 NEA Jazz Master recipient, Jack DeJohnette, at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, NY. 2012 Grammy Award winning drummer, composer, producer and clinician Terri Lyne Carrington will perform along many other talented musicians. NY Anti-Fracking Movement Gets Star-Studded Boost

The anti-fracking movement in New York State is turning up the star power with a rally and concert hosted by actors Mark Ruffalo and Melissa Leo and featuring Natalie Merchant, Joan Osborne and a host of other performers.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

The concert tonight at The Egg in the state Capitol complex will conclude a day of demonstrations calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo to ban hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, for gas in New York State.
