16th Annual Kateri Tekakwitha Peace Conference

  The Kateri Interfaith Peace Conference is two days devoted to peace, exploring the alternatives to wars and violence around the world and at home.

The conference starts with a mini retreat led by Bishop Thomas Gumbleton on Friday and will be followed by their first “Rocking the Boat for Peace” river boat cruise on the Mohawk.

Saturday’s speakers feature Dr. Jill Stein, David Swanson, Steve Breyman and Kristin Christman who will bring an alternative, life affirming vision, positive, practical solutions and sustainable energy.

John Amidon, Veterans for Peace, Tom Paine Chapter and current President of the Interfaith Alliance of the Capital Region and Maureen Aumand is retired public school educator and member of Women Against War join us along with former Green Party Presidential Candidate, Dr. Jill Stein.

Omega Institute Conference - Where We Go From Here

    The Omega Institute connects both humans and the environment as one. Their conferences teach people how to make the place they live better.

Their upcoming conference, Where We Go From Here, will take place in Rhinebeck, New York from October 4-6.

This conference will include speakers, strategies and discussion panels recognizing the fact that everything is connected—that we exist together in one big web of life. Speakers will include President Bill Clinton along with other leading economists, environmentalists, philanthropists, designers, and architects who all give insight to the leading ways of the future towards a better environment for all.

With the start of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season less than a month away, hundreds of people attended a hurricane preparedness conference Wednesday in central Massachusetts.  WAMC’s Paul Tuthill reports…

The director of the National Hurricane Center, Bill Read urged hundreds of public safety officials not to be in denial when they see a forecast that has a hurricane tracking to New England.

Read said since 1990 hurricane tracking errors, 48 hours from landfall, have been cut in half. But forecasting a storm’s intensity remains tricky…
