HV Congressmen Call On NY Governor To Sign Lyme Bill

Two New York congressmen are the latest voices calling for Governor Andrew Cuomo to sign legislation concerning Lyme disease treatment as state lawmakers wonder about the holdup.

Hudson Valley Congressmen Chris Gibson, a Republican, and Sean Patrick Maloney, a Democrat, have teamed up to urge Governor Cuomo to sign legislation the state legislature passed in June that would essentially expand treatment options for patients suffering from Lyme and other tick-borne illnesses. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer swung through the Hudson Valley Thursday, endorsing a few Democratic candidates — some seemingly facing long odds in November.

New York’s senior Senator stopped in Poughkeepsie to endorse fellow Democrats state Senator Terry Gipson and Assemblymember Didi Barrett before heading across the Hudson River to New Paltz in Ulster County to endorse 19th Congressional District candidate Sean Eldridge.

Two NY Congressional Debates Are Slated For Monday Eve

Two New York congressional debates take place in the Hudson Valley Monday evening.

The Orange County Citizens Foundation is presenting a debate in the 18th district with Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney and his Republican opponent, former Congresswomen Nan Hayworth. There is a third candidate who is not part of the debate -- Goshen resident Scott Smith. The debate is at Middletown High School from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.
