A daylong summit on crude oil transportation is under way at the College of St. Rose in Albany.

Albany County hasn't had a major oil train disaster, but County Executive Dan McCoy, erring on the side of "safe, not sorry" called a community "Crude Oil Transportation Summit" to brainstorm and compare notes with officials who have had to deal with such calamities.  "We've never really had to deal with this type of emergency, and hopefully we never do. But we want to be prepared, if something, God forbid like this happens, that we handle it correctly."

The immediate crisis that resulted when a landslide interrupted the flow of the Normans Kill Creek between two golf courses is over, but environmental restoration is expected to take months...

A hillside near the Normanside Country Club in Bethlehem collapsed somewhere between 8 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday, blocking a significant length of the creek that separates the Normanside Country Club from Capital Hills Golf Course on the Albany side.

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer stopped by the Albany Boys & Girls Club Friday afternoon, continuing his crusade against a powdered alcohol product positioned to hit store shelves in the fall.

Add one more voice of support for an Albany Casino -  The Exit 23 or E23 as it's called casino proposal got a strong endorsement from Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple - the Sheriff dashed a letter off to the developer and Capital OTB expressing his "unequivocal support for Project E23' - which sits on land owned by US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's family, its strategic location isolating it from Albany neighborhoods.

NY, Fla. suspects in federal online gambling probe

Nine people including two upstate New York jail guards are being charged after an investigation of online gambling and money laundering.

A U.S. Attorney says three men and a woman from Florida have been charged along with five men from the Albany area. Two of the Florida suspects are charged with money laundering, and two with transmission of wagering information. The New Yorkers are charged with enterprise corruption.
