Packers Loss 27-20 To Bears, Obama Congratulates John Farrell On World Series Win

In the NFL, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was knocked out of Monday night's 27-20 loss to the Chicago Bears with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder. As a result, the Packers fell into a three-way tie for the top spot in the NFC North with Detroit and the Bears at 5-4. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he had no exact diagnosis of Rodgers' injury.

Mike Carp Hits Grand Slam, Jeter Out For Season

In baseball, just two games separate five teams vying for the final American League wild-card berth.

Tampa Bay's lead continued to shrink with a 7-3 loss to the Red Sox. Mike Carp had a pinch-hit grand slam in the 10th inning. It was the first pinch-hit grand slam for Boston since Kevin Millar hit one at Milwaukee on June 7th, 2003.

Yanks Five-Run Eighth Rescues Game

In baseball, the Yankees put together a five-run eighth to turn a 4-1 deficit into a 6-4 win over the Chicago White Sox. Alfonso Soriano sparked the comeback with a two-run single and Curtis Granderson singled home the tying run before Eduardo Nunez lined a two-run double.

Elsewhere in the American League, Boston defeated Detroit 2-1. Will Middlebrooks hit a two-run single in the fifth off Max Scherzer.

Jake Peavy Helps Sox Stop Dodgers

Checking baseball scores, Jake Peavy pitched a complete-game three-hitter and the Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-1 last night, becoming the first team to win a series from the NL West leaders in 2½ months. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Shane Victorino and Mike Napoli homered for the Red Sox.

The Rays were unable to complete a three-game sweep of the Yankees. Curtis Granderson lifted a sacrifice fly in the 11th inning as the Yanks beat Tampa Bay 3-2. Robinson Cano homered.
