Trauma experts from the Institute for Disaster Mental Health at SUNY New Paltz recently returned from their second trip to the Middle East. They directed workshops for Palestinians and Israelis. The work was in crisis counseling and psychological first aid. WAMC’s Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Allison Dunne spoke with the institute director Dr. James Halpern.

The National September 11 Memorial Museum

The director of the Institute for Disaster Mental Health in New Paltz is helping to provide emotional support for families and first responders who visit the 9/11 Memorial Museum at the World at the World Trade Center site.

A grant awarded to the Institute for Disaster Mental Health at the State University of New York at New Paltz will help a program in the Middle East.

There’s a conference tomorrow in New York that will focus on preparedness for nuclear disasters and other radiation emergencies. It’s an opportunity to think about and plan for some worst-case scenarios.

It’s the Institute for Disaster Mental Health’s 10th annual conference, and this year’s topic is “Radiological Readiness: Preparing for Dirty Bombs, Nuclear Disasters, and Other Radiation Emergencies.” Dr. James Halpern is the director of the Institute at the State University of New York at New Paltz.
