The Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs have strengthened their holds on the NBA's two conference races following last night's losses by Miami and Oklahoma City.

Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points and the Knicks earned their third straight win by downing the Heat 102-92 in New York.

The Heat ended a three-game winning streak and fell to 27-9, 1 1/2 games behind the East-leading Pacers. LeBron James had 32 points and Dwyane Wade added 23 for Miami.

The Thunder were clobbered in Denver as Randy Foye scored 24 points in the Nuggets' 101-88 win over Oklahoma City.

In the NBA, Carmelo Anthony scored 13 of his 34 points in the third quarter and hit the game-clinching free throws with 2.9 seconds left in New York's 89-85 victory over Detroit. The Knicks outscored the Pistons 32-17 in the third period and handed Detroit its season-high fifth straight loss.

Christmas Day Nightmare In New York

There were five games in the NBA on Christmas Day and it was not pretty for New York fans.

The first game of the day had the Bulls whipping the Nets 95-78 in Brooklyn, giving Chicago its first winning streak since mid-November. Taj Gibson finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Jimmy Butler chipped in 15 points. The Bulls trailed 50-49 early in the second half before Butler hit a 3-point to spark a 21-5 run that put Chicago in control the rest of the way.

In the NBA, Tyson Chandler returned from injury and J.R. Smith hit a go-ahead jumper in the second overtime and the New York Knicks beat the Milwaukee Bucks 107-101 on Wednesday night.

Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points and Beno Udrih added a season-high 21 for the Knicks.

John Wall scored 21 points and made two big defensive plays against Deron Williams down the stretch to lead the Washington Wizards to a 113-107 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night.

Detroit knocked off Boston 107-106. Charlotte topped Toronto 104-102 in overtime.

In the NBA, on their third try, the Miami Heat have scored their first road victory of the season. LeBron James scored a season-high 35 points, Dwyane Wade had 20 and the two-time NBA champion Heat beat the Toronto Raptors 104-95.

James became the fifth player in NBA history to score 10 points or more in 500 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Kemba Walker scored 25 points, Gerald Henderson added 18 and the Charlotte Bobcats held off a late run by New York to beat the Knicks 102-97.

Oakland Sweeps Yankees 3-2 In 18 Innings

Well, it was a long one.

In the American League, Oakland beat the Yankees 3-2 in 18 innings. Nate Freiman drove in the game winner with a hit off Mariano Rivera. The Yankees took a 2-0 lead in the first and the A's tied things up with two in the third before getting the win and a three-game sweep.

Elsewhere, Baltimore defeated Boston 5-4 in 13 innings. Chris Davis singled home the tiebreaking run with two outs, giving the Orioles a win in the opener of a four-game series. Kansas City cruised ahead of Tampa Bay 10-1 and Toronto defeated Texas 3-1.
