An Assemblyman from the Bronx has been convicted of corruption charges, meanwhile an Assemblyman from the Buffalo area resigned over accusations of sexual harassment.

On the first formal day of the legislative session, Assemblyman Eric Stevenson was convicted of bribery by a federal jury after he took $20,000 from adult day care developers in exchange for promising favorable legislation.  Under state law, Stevenson is automatically removed from office.

A former New York state assemblyman has pleaded not guilty to perjury in a corruption case.

An indictment was unsealed Wednesday in the Bronx against Nelson Castro.

Prosecutors say Castro lied under oath during a civil proceeding concerning his eligibility for placement on the ballot in a primary election for the 86th Assembly District.

The Bronx Democrat resigned last week after he said he cooperated with federal officials in a separate bribery case involving Bronx Democratic Assemblyman Eric Stevenson. Castro was not charged criminally in that case.

Two days after a New York state Senator was arrested for trying to bribe his way onto the New York City mayoral ballot, a state Assemblyman has been accused of accepting  payments to sponsor legislation that would benefit developers of an adult day care center in the Bronx.
