    The film, Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie opened last week. It is based on the best-selling book by Laura Hillenbrand. We spoke with her about the book and its subject, World War II hero, Louis Zamperini, when the book came out in 2010.

Mark Schultz And 'Foxcatcher' At Spectrum 8

    Mark Schultz is an Olympic and two-time world champion freestyle-wrestler and a distinguished member of the Wrestling Hall of Fame. He and his older brother, Dave Schultz, also a wrestler, were noted for both winning Gold Medals in wrestling in the same Olympics in 1984. They were the only brother pair to win both Olympic and World championships. The remarkable story of Mark Schultz is portrayed by Channing Tatum in the new film, Foxcatcher. The book that inspired the film is entitled Foxcatcher: The True Story of My Brother's Murder, John du Pont's Madness, and the Quest for Olympic Gold.

An exclusive preview of the film will be shown on Sunday, December 14th at noon at The Spectrum Theater in Albany, NY. Mark Shultz will be on hand and a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Journeymen Wrestling.

'Actress' By Robert Greene To Screen At Upstate Films In Woodstock

    Brandy Burre had a recurring role on HBO’s The Wire when she gave up her career to start a family. While living with her family in Beacon, NY she decides to reclaim her life as an actor and the domestic world she’s carefully created crumbles around her.

The documentary film, Actress is both a present tense portrait of a dying relationship and an exploration of a woman, performing the role of herself.

Actress will screen at Upstate Films in Woodstock, NY on November 29th at 5pm and Brandy Burre and filmmaker, Robert Greene will both be in attendance for a discussion following the film.

Community Corner: E. Max Frye, Co-Writer Of "Foxcatcher"

This weekend marks the wide release of Foxcatcher, a new film directed by Bennet Miller depicting the story of Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz and millionaire coach John du Pont, the murderer of Schultz’ brother, Olympian Dave Schultz.

Foxcatcher stars Steve Carrell, Channing Tatum, and Mark Ruffalo. It has opened to positive reviews is on many Oscar-watch lists.

WAMC’s Lucas Willard spoke with E. Max Frye, a co-writer of the film, who discussed the process of putting the film together.

15th Annual FilmColumbia Festival

  FilmColumbia is a five-day festival dedicated to showing world-class independent and international films. Produced by the Chatham Film Club, the festival has consistently offered its audiences an early look at films that go on to garner critical approval, major box office success and awards.

This year’s festival kicks-off today and runs through Sunday in Chatham and Hudson, NY. In addition to screenings of anticipated films like The Imitation Game, Low Down, Birdman (and many others) the festival includes industry panels, filmmaker events, and great parties.

  Ron Nyswaner’s writing and producing career has taken him through the major shifts in the film and television industry, from independent films to breakthrough Hollywood dramas (Philadelphia), award winning television movies and, most recently, a hit cable series (Ray Donovan).

He'll be at the Woodstock Film Festival for a panel discussion entitled "Long and Short Stories A Conversation with Ron Nyswaner" - hosted by Us Weekly editor Bradley Jacobs.

Bernadette Peters At The Mahaiwe 2014 Gala

    The Mahaiwe 2014 Gala on October 12th will honor Jane Iredale and feature a performance by Broadway legend Bernadette Peters.

Star of stage and screen, Peters is likely best known for her film roles in The Jerk and Pennies from Heaven and from the stage for her Tony nominated performances in Sunday in the Park with George, Gypsy, and Follies - and her Tony Award winning turns in Annie Get Your Gun and Song and Dance. She received the 2012 Isabelle Stevenson Award for her work with her charity, Broadway Barks which she co-founded in 1999 with Mary Tyler Moore.
