Hours before First Night celebrations, downtown Saratoga Springs was busy making last-minute preparations for the year-end event that draws thousands.

New Years Eve revelry is not just for adults. In western Massachusetts, for the 19th year, the Children’s Museum at Holyoke is putting on First Night Junior.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with the museum’s operations manager, Diane West.

It is New Year’s Eve, a night of revelry and reflection as the calendar turns to 2015. WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley looks at some of the events across the region ringing in the new year.

First Night Celebrations are planned across New York’s North Country and Vermont today.

People in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts will have an opportunity to celebrate the last day of 2013 and bring in 2014 at several long-standing events

A year ago there were concerns First Night Northampton might not survive, but the event with an eclectic mix of music and art is taking place today for the 29th consecutive year.  There are a record 22 venues and hundreds of performers throughout the city’s downtown.

Saratoga Arts is returning for its fourth year as the organizing body for First Night, a citywide New Year’s Eve celebration in the Spa City that is entering its 18th year.

Joel Reed, Executive Director of Saratoga Arts, said this year, more than 70 regional and touring performing acts will provide music, entertainment, and children’s activities at more than 20 venues throughout Saratoga Springs, and around 40 percent of the acts this year are joining in for the first time.

First Night celebrations are approaching as communities plan to ring in the new year Monday night.  In our region, one city celebrates its 30th First Night, while another cuts back on the festival.
